Steelers WR Diontae Johnson Blasted For Lack of Effort
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers probably should have scored a touchdown on their second drive of the game. But after a Diontae Johnson reception was called incomplete, the offense lined back up and ran the football.
Jaylen Warren fumbled. But instead of attention being directed at the turnover, it's been turned to Johnson, who was caught not trying to make a block on the play, then ignoring the fumble and walking away as a Bengals defender picked it up.
The play caught fire on social media rather quickly, with many putting their two cents in on Johnson's lack of effort.
Many significant voices among NFL media made their thoughts known, such as Barstool Sports' Big Cat, who joked, "Diontae Johnson all hustle team," and Sports Illustrated's Michael Fabiano tweeting, "Diontae Johnson out here trying to get cut by the Steelers?"
Local radio personalities such as Colin Dunlap sarcastically tweeted, "Diontae Johnson giving tons of effort on that fumble."
Johnson was reportedly involved in a heated argument with Minkah Fitzpatrick after the team's loss to the Cleveland Browns last week. That altercation ended with Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt breaking up the two and giving a speech on how the team needed to come together.
After the Browns game, running back Najee Harris was asked if everyone was on the team had a "team first" mentality. He hesitated before declining to answer the question.
