The Pittsburgh Steelers will retain quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan.

PITTSBURGH -- The offseason had been full of uncertainty for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan but he got some positive news this week as the franchise goes through some staff changes ahead of a pivotal season in 2024.

The Steelers are keeping Sullivan in his current role as quarterbacks coach, according to a repor from Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, Texas. He had been considered for offensive coordinator jobs with other teams in recent weeks, but didn't get them, and the team had reportedly been looking at replacements. Instead Sullivan will stay in Pittsburgh to help oversee the development of Kenny Pickett.

Sullivan has been with the Steelers since 2021 after a long coaching career in the college and NFL ranks. When the Steelers dismissed offensive coordinator Matt Canada last November, Sullivan stepped in alongside running backs coach Eddie Faulkner

Last season, Kenny Pickett showed some promise with Sullivan calling the plays. He threw for 278 yards while completing 72% of his passes in a Week 12 win over the Bengals, which was also Sullivan's first time calling plays for the Steelers, before suffering an ankle injury.

Mason Rudolph also enjoyed a comeback season under Sullivan's coaching, leading Pittsburgh to a 3-1 record and a surprise playoff berth while completing 74% of his passes for 719 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions as a starter during the regular season.

The Steelers have made major changes to their coaching staff, bringing Arthur Smith in as offensive coordinator, Tom Arth as a passing game coordinator and Zach Azzanni as wide receivers coach. But Sullivan will remain to serve as a familiar voice in the Steelers offensive coaching staff in 2024.
