Steelers’ Mike Tomlin Walks Off After Contract Question

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not want to address his contract situation.

ORCHARD PARK -- In the wake of a 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Wild Card Weekend, a fourth consecutive playoff loss that made it seven years without a postseason win for his team, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wanted to talk about anything but his future with the program.

Tomlin was taking questions from reporters after the game and answered a handful about the game itself. As the press conference wound down, ESPN's Brooke Pryor began to ask a question about Tomlin's contract situation and before she could finish asking, he walked off the podium, ending his final session with the media abruptly.

Tomlin has one more year left on his current contract. NBC Sports' Mike Florio reported over the weekend that this is the first time that Tomlin will enter the final year of a deal without an extension, but Will Graves of the Associated Press later refuted that claim. Florio also said Tomlin would delay a decision on his future with the organization until the offseason.

Steelers owner Art Rooney II said during training camp that he expects the organization to reach an agreement with Tomlin on a new contract before the current one expires.

But with a difficult season now in the rearview, Tomlin will have a chance to decide just how long he wants to stay in Pittsburgh.
