PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers could make a splash in free agency with another addition to their defensive line, this time, with the signing of a former first-overall pick.

The Athletic's Mark Kaboly broke down all of the potential free agency targets the Steelers can sign this offseason, and in his "Logical Fits" tier, named San Francisco 49ers defensive end Chase Young.

"Mike Tomlin made a fuss over Young during a game in 2020, so that brings him into play," Kaboly writes. "With Watt and Highsmith on the roster, perhaps there’s no clear fit for Young, but he’s young, talented and looking to prove himself after an uneven last few seasons. If his market winds up being a one-year deal worth a little over $10 million, as Spotrac projects, he’s definitely in the mix for the Steelers, who could use him on the inside at times, too."

The Steelers were reportedly in the hunt for Young near the trade deadline before the 49ers acquired him. Now, as a free agent, they could get their hands on him without having to give up a draft pick.

This past season, Young recorded 7.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss. While he's never hit the double-digit sack mark, he's still viewed as a starter-capable player with plenty of upside.

The Steelers will have to make a decision on Larry Ogunjobi this offseason as the veteran is set to take on a $13 million cap hit this season. If they choose to release him, they'll save roughly $5 million.

The 29-year-old had three sacks and three tackles for loss last season, and dealt with several injuries that forced him to miss practice time - although he did not miss any games.

According to Spotrac, Young's market value this offseason is a one-year deal worth $13 million. The Steelers currently have roughly $13 million in available cap space.
