Steelers New OL to Make First Start
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers will get their first look at Nate Herbig in the starting lineup as he replaces James Daniels at right guard.
Daniels will miss his first game with the Steelers due to a groin injury he suffered against the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, Herbig will join the starting lineup, next to center Mason Cole and right tackle Chuks Okorafor.
Herbig signed with the Steelers this offseason with no expectation of his role on the team. He worked all summer as a rotational piece in the middle, preparing for the opportunity that would present itself.
“Just approaching every week like I’m gonna play,” Herbig said. “Just always having that mentality, being ready when my number’s called. That’s just how I’ve been approaching it since I’ve gone to the league and I’m gonna keep approaching it like that.”
At 25 years old, Herbig has 28 career starts in the NFL, including 11 last season for the New York Jets. He also has three years of experience working with Steelers left guard Isaac Seumalo while in Philadelphia.
