Steelers OT Competiton Still Wide Open

The Pittsburgh Steelers have not yet settled on their starting offensive tackles.

PITTSBURGH -- Even with three games of preseason action

Offensive coordinator Matt Canada had high praise for rookie tackle Broderick Jones following the win over Atlanta, saying he's still competing for a starting job on either side of the line.

“Man, I really like Broderick. I think plays super hard. I think he does everything you want a guy to do. He gets better every day. And I think we’re in a fortunate situation with we’ve got three really good tackles competing for those jobs."

The Steelers have started Dan Moore Jr. and Chukwuma Okorafor in each of their three preseason games and they were the starting tackle duo in 16 games last season. Meanwhile, Jones has shuffled between the first, second and third teams all during training camp.

But Pittsburgh traded up to snag Jones with the 15th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, indicating they were looking for an immediate upgrade at a premium offensive line position.

He has been viewed as a long-term investment for the Steelers, a talented prospect in need of serious development, but Canada believes in both the present and future for Jones.

Dan and Chuks have played a lot of football but Broderick is battling. I credit him for coming to work every day and he gets better every day. So he’ll continue to grow and I think he has a really high ceiling as an NFL player.”
