Steelers Playoff Chances Aren't Dead Yet
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers fell from the 5th seed in the AFC to the 10th seed in three weeks, following consecutive losses to the Cardinals, Patriots, and Colts. Now, even with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16, their chances to make the playoffs are slim.
Currently, the New York Times has the Steelers' playoff chances at 3%. With a win over the Bengals, disregarding the rest of the outcomes in Week 16, Pittsburgh's chances climb to just 7%.
If they win against the Bengals in Week 16 and the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17, those chances reach 17%.
Now, if the Steelers get a "best-case scenario" situation in Week 16, those chances will increase slightly. With losses to the Colts, Buffalo Bills, Tennesee Titans, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh's reach a 15% chance to reach the postseason heading into Week 17.
If the Steelers win their final three games, their playoff chances peak at 76% - without factoring in outcomes of other games.
Hypothetically, if their best-case scenario happens in Week 16, and they win their final three games, they have a 99% chance to make the postseason.
