Steelers LB Tariq Carpenter Arrested Before Release
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Tariq Carpenter was arrested for domestic violence prior to his release by the team, according to TribLive's Jonathan Silver.
Police were called to a domestic violence complaint in the Crawford-Roberts neighborhood, where they say Carpenter "threw his live-in girlfriend to the ground and held her down against her will" during an argument around 8 a.m.
According to Silver, Police say the argument stemmed from accusations that Carpenter cheated on the woman involved. The former Steelers linebacker grew angry, lifted her out of bed, and threw her to the ground, injuring his shoulder, according to the complaint.
During the incident, Carpenter's girlfriend scratched his face, according to the complaint.
She attempted to call 911 from her cell phone, but Carpenter grabbed it and hung up. When police arrived, the apartment was in disarray. According to the report, Carpenter claimed he was the victim in the incident.
The Steelers announced Carpenter's release just hours later. They originally signed him to their practice squad at the start of the season and elevated him to the active roster for three games this year.
He's scheduled for a preliminary hearing in City Court Jan. 4.
