Steelers' T.J. Watt Loses Defensive Player of the Year Award
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt won't walk away with his second Defensive Player of the Year Award, losing to Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.
Watt finished a historic season for the Steelers with 19, becoming the first player in NFL history to lead the league in sacks three different times. He also tallied 68 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 36 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, eight passes defended, an interception and a touchdown.
In Week 18 - a do-or-die game for the Steelers' playoff push - he recorded two of his 19 sacks.
He was also named a First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowler, the AFC Defensive Player of the Year by the 'Committee of 101,' and was voted team MVP by his teammates.
Garrett finished the season tied seventh in sacks with 14. He also recorded 42 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 30 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three passes defensed.
Watt apparently skipped the NFL Honors ceremony after learning of the results prior to the show. He also tweeted out a response to losing the award.
