Steelers LB T.J. Watt Named Player of the Week
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt is the AFC's Week 18 Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced. It's his seventh time being honored with the recognition.
Watt finished Week 18 against the Baltimore Ravens with two sacks, eight tackles, three tackles for loss and two quarterback hits. His marks set him up to lead the league in sacks for a third time in his career (2020, 2021 and 2023). His finished the season with 19 sacks.
Unfortunately, Watt's Week 18 ended with him suffering a grade 2 MCL sprain that will force him to miss the opening round of the playoffs.
Watt's 2023 regular season campaign finished with him being first in quarterback hits (36) amongst the league. He was also tied for second in fumble recoveries (3), tied for fifth in forced fumbles (4) and fifth in tackles for a loss (19).
Watt was named the Player of the Month in September this season after finishing the month with six sacks, 11 tackles, five tackles for a loss, two pass deflections, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and a touchdown.
