PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly in the cornerback hunt as the trade deadline approaches and are frontrunners for Chicago Bears star Jaylon Johnson, according to 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Filliponi.

The Bears gave Johnson permission to seek a trade prior to the deadline day, allowing the 24-year-old to land somewhere for the second half of the season. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Pittsburgh is looking for a deal to acquire a young defensive back, and Johnson appears to be their top option.

Johnson has 45 games of starting experience under his belt in the NFL. The former second-round pick has secured two interceptions this season and is allowing just a 50% competition rate.

Head coach Mike Tomlin announced this week that rookie Joey Porter Jr. had done enough to earn himself the starting job for the Steelers. With Minkah Fitzpatrick out with a hamstring injury, Patrick Peterson could be moving back to safety part-time for Pittsburgh. Veteran Levi Wallace is also dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of Week 8.

The Bears are reportedly seeking multiple Day 2 NFL Draft picks in exchange for Johnson.
