Texans Hire Jake Moreland as New TE Coach
The Houston Texans took additional steps to shore up the team's coaching staff with the hiring of former Denver Broncos tight ends coach Jake Moreland, according to reports.
Moreland will be taking the same position with the Texans as he held with the Broncos, joining rookie head coach DeMeco Ryan's nearly-complete coaching staff.
Moreland spent two seasons in the NFL as a player (New York Jets in 2000 and Cleveland Browns in 2001) before turning to coaching starting in 2003 (tight ends coach at Elmhurst University).
After coaching at the college ranks from 2003-2020, Moreland landed his first NFL coaching gig as an assistant offensive line coach with the New York Jets in 2021.
He was hired as the tight ends coach for the Denver Broncos in 2020 before inking with Houston prior to the start of the 2023 NFL season.
Coach Ryans and the Texans also recently hired Chris Strausser as the new offensive line coach and retained the services of Ben McDaniels as the team's wide receivers coach.
Jake Olson was also added to Houston's coaching staff on Feb. 18, while Shane Day was hired as the team's senior offensive assistant on Feb. 17.
In addition to those hirings, Chris Kiffin was named as the team's linebackers coach on Feb. 16.
And with Moreland on board, the staff is now one step closer to being finalized.
