Live Blog: Follow Titans' Home Game With Texans in Real Time
NASHVILLE — Worlds are colliding on Sunday at Nissan Stadium, where the Houston Texans are in town to take on the Tennessee Titans — but they are decked out in their old Houston Oilers throwbacks.
Houston vs. Houston. The Texas folks aren't happy this, of course, to which the Tennessee fans say, ''so what.''
In any case, this will be a physical AFC South showdown, as always. So welcome to our live blog, where we will keep you updated in real time with all the news and views from the game, straight from press row. We'll toss in some opinion and highlights as well.
The most recent items are at the top. Just refresh as needed to see the latest. Enjoy the game.
3:21 p.m. — It looks like the Texans had it won on a long Singletary touchdown run, but it's called back for a holding penalty. Huge lucky break for the Titans. Houston calls a timeout, and will try to win it with a likely 54-yard field goal attempt with two seconds to go. The kick is good, and the Texans win. FINAL: TEXANS 19, TITANS 16.
3:14 p.m. — We've reached the two-minute warning anad it's third-and-8 for the Titans at their own 49. Be interesting to see how aggressive they get here. Will Levis gets sacked — and he's hurt, too. This is not good. Looks like a left knee injury of some sort as he walks off gingerly.
3:03 p.m. — The Titans get the ball first in overtime. They'll take over at the 25. Chris Moore high-points the ball and makes a great catch on third down. Ball at the 47. Titans punt, but Texans do nothing, with two sacks by Marlon Davidson and Denico Autry.
2:56 p.m. — Houston gains 14 yards on first down on a pass from Case Keenum to Robert Woods. They're at its own 45, and take their last timeout with 9 seconds to go. Can't do anything, so we're off to overtime, the third of the year for Tennessee.
2:51 p.m. — The Texans go three and out, hurt by a false start penalty. They have three timeouts left, so they punt it away. Titans take over on their own 29 with 45 seconds to go. Nothing happens, though, and it's fourth-and-9. Texans take their second timeout with 27 seconds to go, and force a punt. There's 15 seconds left.
2:45 p.m. — Will Levis find Chris Moore on third down, and the Titans move the chains. We've reached the two-minute warning, and we're still tied at 16-16. Titans can't get another first though, and they have to punt. Houston takes over at its 21 with 1:45 to go.
2:38 p.m. — The Texans march down the field and score their first touchdown of the game on a Case Keenum pass to Noah Brown. PAT is good ant it;s 16-16 with 3:03 to go.
2:26 p.m. — The Titans flip the field, but have to settle for a 45-yard field goal from Nick Folk. The lead is back to seven with 7:29 to go. TITANS 16, TEXANS 9.
2:03 p.m. — The Texans add another field goal, and now it's 13-9 with 2:42 to go in the third quarter. Tennessee offense has to get going. But no. The Titans go three-and-out again. They only have 148 total yards so far through three quarters.
1:47 p.m. — The Texans get all the way to the Tennessee 8-yard line after the pick, but can't get in the end zone again. They settle for another field goal. It's TITANS 13, TEXANS 6 with 6:27 to go in the third quarter.
1:37 p.m. — Bad interception there for Will Levis. He tried to force a ball into DeAndre Hopkins, and was off target. He also didn't see Treylon Burks running down the left sideline all alone. Rookie mistake not seeing the field better.
1:35 p.m. — Titans rookie left tackle Peter Skoronski is hurt. He walks off under his own power, but heads straight to the blue medical tent. Big loss for the Titans. He's been really good all year.
HALFTIME — Some stats of note. Tennessee's Derrick Henry has just 7 yards rushing on six carries. Quarterback Will Levis is their leading rusher, with 16 yards on three carries. Levis is 8-for-9 passing for 22 yards. With that pick-six, the Titans only ran 22 first-half plays.
1:15 p.m. — The Texans finally put together a drive, and get into the red zone. Titans, the No. 1 red zone defense, hold them on third down and they are forced to kick a field goal as time expires. TITANS 13, TEXANS 3.
12:50 p.m. — Nice touch by the Titans today, honoring former tight end Frank Wycheck, who passed away last week. They are wearing an ''89'' decal on their helmets.
12:44 p.m. — The Texans get called for a false start on third down, making it third-and-10. Case Keenum throws in the left flat, but Titans safety Elijah Molden picks it off and takes it back for a score from 45 yards out. First pick-six of the year. The kick is good. TITANS 13, TEXANS 0.
12:40 p.m. — We've reached the end of the first quarter, and the Titans are still leading 6-0. The Texans just got their second first down, and have the ball at their own 40-yard line.
12:26 p.m. — The Titans come up with another big stop on third down, and force another punt. Elijah Molden with the pass break-up on third-and-4. Texans punt, and the Titans start at their own 15.
12:17 p.m. — The Titans are on the board first, as Will Levis scores from a yard out on a quarterback draw. The point-after is missed, though. Titans go 83 yards in 11 plays. Great opening drive, and Levis was 4-for-4 for 76 yards. TITANS 6, TEXANS 0.
12:10 p.m. — We have a Treylon Burks sighting. The oft-injured — and oft-maligned — second-year receiver is open over the middle and Will Levis finds him for a 37-yard gain. So good to see. Then Levis finds Nick Westbrook-Ihkine down the left side to the 1-yard line, but the catch is challenged. Call stands.
12:06 p.m. — The Titans' first possession starts at their own 17. Will Levis dives for the sticks on third down, but comes up a yard short. They go for it, and Derrick Henry gets the yard. That's Mike Vrabel putting on his cowboy hat early.
12:02 p.m. — The Titans win the toss and defer. Houston gets the ball first, but go three-and-out. Nice tackle by Titans safety Amani Hooker on an end around on third-and-short.
11:50 a.m. — No C.J. Stroud for the Houston Texans today. He's out with a concussion. Veteran Case Keenum is getting the start instead of Davis Mills. Keenum, 35, last started a game for the Texans back in 2014. In 2017, he was the every-day starter for the Minnesota Vikings, and also started two playoff games.
11:45 a.m. — Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis loves the throwback jerseys. He made his NFL debut in those threads, and he threw four touchdown passes in a win over the Atlanta Falcons.
11:35 a.m. CT — The Titans are firmly embracing their Houston roots today. Even coach Mike Vrabel is taking part, wearing a cowboy hat as an homage to former Oilers coaching great Bum Phillips.
11:25 a.m. — Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who loves the look anyway, showed up at Nissan Stadium dressed to the nines. ESPN's Turron Davenport caught him on the way in.
