NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans quarterback has been under the microscope all offseason long as uncertainty around his future with the team increases, but Ryan Tannehill is still set to be the Titans' starter in 2023. According to a recent ranking done by Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus, Tannehill is the 19th-best starting quarterback in the NFL heading into next season.

Tannehill's ranking can be debated and there are certainly players ranked ahead of him who are questionable, but Monson has sound logic for his ranking and explains it.

"Tannehill is very much in the decline of his career at this point, but he is being made to look worse by the collapse of talent around him in Tennessee. The Titans ended last season with the league’s worst offensive line, and they may be entering this one with the league’s worst receiving corps. Tannehill has little chance to prove he is still capable of his best play and is coming off a 75.9% adjusted completion rate and a 2.5% turnover-worthy play rate in 2022."

The Titans have done very little to support Tannehill in the past two offseasons. Trading away a top-tier talent in A.J. Brown essentially doomed Tannehill. Not to mention, the Titans lack of interest in adding talent to the position this most recent offseason.

We have seen Tannehill plays hi best football during his time in Tennessee, but it is hard to see Tannehill hitting those heights again with the roster that has been put around him. Even if Tannehill has made his fair share of mistakes in big moments, he certainly isn't the issue with the Titans' current team.

Despite all of that, seeing someone like Jared Goff or Justin Fields ranked ahead of Tannehill is confusing. Goff is basically a younger version of Tannehill and Fields proved more as a runner than a passer in 2022.

The Titans did make some additions on the offensive line this offseason and if they are able to add wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, maybe they put enough around Tannehill for him to prove he should be ranked higher than the 19th spot he was given here.

Vrabel's Opinion Matters: While some in the media and in the Titans fan base do not think the team can win a Super Bowl in 2023, Mike Vrabel may feel differently and that's the only thing that matters. CLICK HERE
