Titans WR Group Ranked One of NFL's Worst by Pro Football Focus

The Tennessee Titans sport one of the least-talented groups of wide receivers in the entire NFL, but were surprisingly not ranked last in a recent list from Pro Football Focus.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans know the state of their wide receiver room is simply not good enough to accomplish the amount of wins head coach Mike Vrabel surely wants. That's why they are pushing to sign DeAndre Hopkins. It should be no surprise that the Titans were ranked very low on a recent list from Pro Football Focus.

Trevor Sikkema recently ranked all 32 receiver rooms in the NFL and the Titans came in on the list in the 30th spot, ranking ahead of only the Carolina Panthers at 31st and the Houston Texans at 32nd. While the ranking is very low, it would be reasonable if the Titans were in either of the final spots as well.

The Panthers are an interesting debate. A veteran like Adam Thielen gives Carolina's group more career production than nearly everyone combined on the Titans. They also added second-round pick Johnathan Mingo while retaining third-year player Terrace Marshall Jr. and signing free agent D.J. Chark.

I hate to say it, but I struggle to see how Thielen, Mingo, Marshall and Chark are a lesser group than Treylon Burks, Kyle Philips, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Chris Moore tops that in any way. Sikkema did however and here is what he said about the Titans ranking:

"Last season, tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo was the Titans' highest-graded receiver at 84.6. The next closest was Treylon Burks at 73.8. After that, it was not great. Kyle Phillips and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine are the other two in the mix, but it feels like a passing group without a true identity beyond Burks just being a takeover player — basically hoping he can be A.J. Brown. And that is a tough ask."

One interesting team who the Titans were behind in the rankings happened to be the team they are going up against in the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes. The New England Patriots were in the 29th spot with their group. While both teams could use Hopkins' talents, the Titans could argue they need Hopkins more, but clearly it is close.

If either team pursuing Hopkins lands him, it will likely send them up the rankings quite a bit. At the end of day, rankings aren't very important, but the impact Hopkins would have is.

Burks is an interesting player to watch this season. A first-round pick a year ago, he seems to have matured a lot heading into his second year and seems primed to become the Titans' WR-1, according to the fantasy experts at Fanduel.

If Mike Vrabel wants to get those wins we talked about above, he should hope they do climb these rankings soon with a Hopkins addition. It will likely be the only way he can maximize wins for a meaningful result in 2023.
