NBA Draft Night Big for Eric Musselman in Couple of Ways
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Eric Musselman is getting a lot more out of Thursday night's NBA Draft than a trip to the event. No, that's not the new suit, as he said on The Aaron Torres Podcast about getting fitted.
With Anthony Black and Nick Smith projected most place to go in the first round, it will make his first in-person visit to the draft, invite to the green room off the stage, and chance to possibly to walk on if selected in the first round. It will be special.
"It always is if you have a drafted player," Musselman said on the podcast. "We'v'e had some good draft nights since we've been at Arkansas, but we're we're very hopeful that this draft is going to be a historic night for a really great program because Arkansas has produced a lot of pros."
He's hoping it is a draft that pays off for more than just Black, Smith and Ricky Council IV, who is also declared, and freshman Jordan Walsh, who has been moving up some draft boards into a pretty good spot in the second round.
"We're hopeful that this year's draft is the best in program history and we're excited about it," Musselman said. "You're talking about three players that are so young and have so much upside having just played their freshman year and Ricky Council who is a transfer. It's going to be a really great night for our program."
There's the key. Getting three players into the draft after their first year with the Razorbacks is a big recruiting deal. High school players notice that type of thing. So do transfers, which may be even more important in this day and age with the transfer portal. He's making it a family affair, too.
"Danyelle and Michael will go," he said. "Still deciding if other staff members will go or stay back with the current team. There will be a party that our players that are currently on the roster will watch the draft together."
