Weekly NET: Same Cincinnati Story, Different Year As NCAA Tournament Hopes Keep Slipping Away
CINCINNATI — The Bearcats are unfortunately in the same spot they've been in every year under Wes Miller: Beat Houston late in the season (10 straight losses to Cougars) and roll off an unrealistic amount of wins, or win the conference tournament.
Those are a few of the only scenarios left that will get Cincinnati into the NCAA Tournament for the first time this decade. Consecutive losses have them sitting at 45th in the NET Rankings and 5-9 in the Big 12.
They are a part of just 7/100 verified tournament projections on The Bracket Matrix, and TeamRankings gives them just a 16% chance of earning an at-large bid.
The Bearcats completely fell flat in a week where they had to go at least 1-1. Without a miraculous upset over Houston—Cincinnati's season is likely over (in terms of making the dance). They are yet to win consecutive conference games and would have to win five consecutive games across that many days to get the Big 12's automatic bid.
