Coby Bryant: 'Baseball Taught me how to Track the Ball in the air'
CINCINNATI — Former Cincinnati cornerback Coby Bryant is a consensus top-10 player at his position in the upcoming NFL Draft in large part because of his verstatility and ball skills. He recently told The Draft Network's Justin Melo that his nack for finding the ball in the air goes back to one sport: baseball.
"Honestly, I like to give credit and take it back to my baseball playing days," Bryant told Melo. I played some centerfield, first base, and I also pitched a little. I grew up playing baseball my entire life. That’s what made catching the football an easier process for me.
"A baseball is obviously a lot smaller than a football. It taught me how to track the ball in the air. Once that ball’s in the air, I’m calling it mine. It’s either mine or nobody’s. That’s the mentality I try to keep with me when the ball’s in the air because I know that ball production is so big at the next level. If you can make that many plays on the ball in the NFL, you can become a truly special player."
Bryant also told Melo he's talked with every NFL team in some form since the draft process started.
"I essentially met with every single team between the Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine," Bryant said. "I had some Top 30 visits as well, but we’re keeping those details under wraps at this time. I’ve been meeting with pretty much every team in one way or another. I’m really enjoying the process."
Bryant is the consensus 83rd-ranked player in the draft and just appeared on a major two-round mock draft for the first time.
