Rayvon Griffith Committing on May 1
CINCINNATI — One of Wes Miller's top targets in the class of 2023 is committing on May 1. Taft (Oh.) guard Rayvon Griffith placed Cincinnati in his Top-5 schools a few days ago and will announce his official school choice in just a few weeks.
4/30 UPDATE: Griffith is committing at 6 p.m. on May 1.
The local Taft High School product is fresh off the team's first state championship title in over a decade and averaged over 18 points, five rebounds, and two assists in his junior campaign. Griffith is ESPN's 59th-ranked player in the class of 2023 and the 14th-ranked small forward. He is choosing between UC, UCLA, Kansas, Ohio State, Alabama.
Griffith spoke with On3 about how Cincinnati is recruiting him.
“It’s a great program,” Griffith told Joe Tipton. “They’ve been riding me real hard, people in the city and stuff because I’m from Cincinnati. And you know, I’m like a top-level kid so they definitely want to do everything they can to try to keep me in the city.”
“A brotherhood,” Griffith said describing his ideal college situation. “Somewhere that fits my style of play…consistency of recruiting me, showing what they have to offer me, what they can do for me in the future, and how they will support my future of what I’m trying to do…if I’m going to be a one-and-done or a four-year player at that program. Just showing me the plan they have for me if I go to that school.”
Another interesting nugget from the announcement is how five-star 2023 guard Isaiah Collier reacted.
The Wheeler (Ga.) product is ESPN's 15th-ranked prospect nationally and third-best point guard. Miller has been recruiting both players very hard over the past few months. As the team gets set to enter the Big 12—America's best college basketball conference—getting commits from two top prospects would go a long way toward bridging that talent gap early.
