Report: Bearcats Fill Open Offensive Coordinator and OLBs Coaching Positions With Brad Glenn and Nate Fuqua
CINCINNATI — Scott Satterfield has found a new outside linebackers coach and offensive coordinator after losing Tom Manning and Greg Gasparato.
Bearcat Journal's Chad Brendel reports that Virginia Tech quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Brad Glenn is being hired as the new OC.
On3's Matt Zenitz also reported that Georgia State defensive coordinator Nate Fuqua is UC's new outside linebackers coach.
Satterfield and Glenn were on staff at Appalachian State from 2005 to 2008. Glenn coached tight ends and slot receivers, while Satterfield was the quarterbacks' coach.
Glenn stepped right in as QBs coach at Appalachian State for three seasons after Satterfield left for Toledo in 2009. Glenn has also manned offensive coordinator roles at both Western Carolina and Georgia State.
The working relationship and added wrinkle of Satterfield already planning to call plays makes this a logical choice. Glenn has a deep knowledge of UC's new system and should be able to hit the ground running in the collaborative offensive build.
It's not confirmed that he is the new tight ends coach, but it would make sense given Manning's exit from that role as well. Glenn coached tight ends alongside Satterfield in 2005 and was the tight ends coach at Elon in 2001.
UPDATE: Glenn is coaching wide receivers and Josh Stepp is moving from WRs coach to tight ends coach.
“I have known Brad Glenn for nearly 30 years, and he is one of the top football minds in the business,” Satterfield said. “Brad could coach any position, but I believe his experience coordinating passing games makes him a perfect fit to coach wide receivers for us in addition to his coordinator duties. Brad is a relentless recruiter and a proven winner, and I’m excited to welcome he and his family to Cincinnati.”
Fuqua has been the Panthers' defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach for the past six seasons. The Panthers have set school records in sacks and tackles for loss under his tutelage.
In his first season as the Panthers' DC, Fuqua got nominated for the 2017 Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant. Now both coaches are headed to Clifton as Spring Practice ramps at the start of next month.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Nate Fuqua to our coaching staff,” Satterfield said. “He’s had great success as a coordinator and he knows the defense we run well. I’ve known Nate since his days as an All-American defensive tackle at Wofford. He wouldn’t be outworked then, and he won’t be outworked now. That’s why I’m excited to have him on our staff.”
