Scott Satterfield: 'Had Those Conversations' About Playing Young Players

Cincinnati's 2023 bowl hopes are close to flatlining.

CINCINNATI — UC football is 2-4 on the season and trending towards a youth movement as the bowl hopes dwindle. A win this weekend is imperative for those to stay alive or Cincinnati would have to go 4-1 down the stretch.

Head Coach Scott Satterfield confirmed the team is sticking with Emory Jones as its "best chance to move the offense," but that other spots could be getting a youth movement soon.

"We certainly have had those conversations," Satterfield said about a youth injection across the roster. "There are some guys that we want to get in there, let's see what they can do. I certainly think as we get a little bit towards the end we will definitely do that. ... I wanna get them in. I want to allow them to play and see what they can do. So that certainly has been brought up."

Now, this week may be a bit early to go full-steam ahead with development. ESPN still gives Cincinnati a 40.8% chance to win six games and get bowl-eligible, but a loss to Baylor should crater those odds.

One player I'd really like to see get more time is true freshman wide receiver Barry Jackson. He scored a deep touchdown in his one stint of action against Eastern Kentucky and was a standout throughout spring before more veteran transfers rolled in.

He's the Bearcats highest-graded player on PFF when not filtering for snaps played (90 overall grade)
