CINCINNATI — UC football lost a contributing member of the secondary this weekend as safety Jacob Dingle announced his retirement from the sport.

"After a recent neck injury, I’ve decided to hang up the cleats," Dingle wrote on Instagram. "Wasn’t an easy decision because this is all I have known since I was a little kid. I am beyond grateful for all the memories, challenges, and relationships I have made throughout my career. I love every one of my brothers I have met since the time I was at OCYFL, St. Pats, Trinity, and Cincinnati. I’m excited to see what the future holds for me as I finish up my postgraduate degree and help coach the Bearcats next season. Football, I’ll miss you!"

Dingle appeared in 12 games last season as a senior after playing in games during all four seasons at UC. He notched 18 tackles, 1 interception, and 1 pass breakup on the season.

Cincinnati's safety depth has taken a hit with the loss of Dingle and Armorion Smith entering the transfer portal

Players like D.J. Taylor and Taj Ward emerged at the position throughout the spring.
