Ahmad Gardner Taken by Kansas City Chiefs in Latest Mock Draft
CINCINNATI — Pro Football Focus unveiled their latest first-round NFL mock draft, and the Bearcats landed one name on the list of picks.
Ahmad " Sauce" Gardner went off the board at No. 26 to the Kansas City Chiefs in Mike Renner's mock draft.
"Ahmad Gardner has a chance to make himself a ton of money against Jameson Williams in the playoffs. He’s given up only 117 yards all season long but hasn’t faced much in the way of top competition."
Gardner has never allowed a touchdown in his career and used a strong finish in AAC play this season to rise up Mel Kiper and Todd McShay's prospect rankings at ESPN.
One name curiously absent from this list is Desmond Ridder, who Kiper has No. 2 on his QB rankings, and McShay has No. 5 on his same list. Most evaluators view the 2022 NFL Draft as a weak quarterback class, but the signal-callers are still going at the top of the PFF mock drafts.
Renner has Kenny Pickett (No. 3) and Matt Corral (No. 9) inside his top-ten picks, while Sam Howell (No. 18) was the only other first-round quarterback. Nine first-round quarterbacks have come off the board over the past two seasons, but that surplus of QB talent is subsiding and could open the door for Ridder to sneak into the first round.
In the meantime, Ridder and Gardner can boost their draft status even more with an upset win over Alabama on Dec. 31. The Cotton Bowl kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
