CINCINNATI — The Big 12 head basketball coaches are reportedly on board with adding UConn to the league as it continues to explore expansion to its 12-team status after Texas and Oklahoma check out.

The Action Network's Brett McMurphy reported the news.

"Big 12 basketball coaches in favor of adding UConn to Big 12, sources told The Action Network," McMurphy tweeted. "UConn 'in the mix' as an all-sports addition to the Big 12, sources said."

Brett Yormark noted his interest in capitalizing on the league's top-tier basketball status this past week and this could be a major step in adding the reigning national champions.

"We're going to consider all options," Yormark said. "We do see the upside in basketball for all the right reasons. We think it is undervalued and there is a chance for us to double down as the No. 1 basketball conference in America, but football is the driver. We all know that."

CBS Sports also reports there is stronger "momentum" for UConn to join the league before a school like Gonzaga. It's the latest instance of conference realignment news all while the fires rage around Colorado and Arizona potentially joining the league.

One thing is clear: Yormark is not looking to sit around and let other leagues grow while the Big 12 stays static.

UConn would be a great basketball addition and an on-paper bad football product, but that might change quickly. Big 12 revenues could do wonders for a program that's been independent since the school paid $17 million to leave the AAC in 2020.

The Big 12 wheels are turning as super conferences look more and more likely in college sports.
