Winners and Losers From Cincinnati Bearcats' 32-29 Loss to Baylor Bears
CINCINNATI — The Bearcats lost to the Bears 32-29 on Saturday at Nippert Stadium.
Baylor led by as many as 15, but Cincinnati rallied and even had a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Emory Jones and the offense fell short.
Here are our winners and losers from the matchup:
Myles Montgomery and Corey Kiner
The dynamic duo led the way for Cincinnati's offense, combining for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
Montgomery finished with 103 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown run late in the first half that helped the Bearcats regain some momentum after a slow start.
Kiner had a 40-yard run and finished with 129 yards on 15 carries.
Bearcats Defense
They gave up multiple big plays throughout the game, but they stepped up with the game on the line.
Cincinnati held Baylor to just three points in the fourth quarter. They gave up yards, but did enough to give Jones and the offense a chance to rally.
Losers
Scott Satterfield
There will be plenty of discussion about the offense, Satterfield's coaching and plenty of other issues after Saturday's loss. His in-game decision making should also be questioned.
Opting to go for it on fourth down not once, but twice, while in field goal range ultimately cost the Bearcats.
Satterfield chose to go for it on 4th-and-3 from Baylor's 15-yard line in the third quarter.
Cincinnati could've kicked a field goal to pull within 12. They needed at least three scores (two touchdowns and a field goal) to win the game. Instead, they didn't convert and Baylor's fourth quarter field goal made the difference.
That decision was more impactful than when he also went for it on 4th-and-1 from Baylor's 23-yard line on their first possession of the game.
Passing Attack
Jones completed 19-of-30 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. He has a great rapport with Xzavier Henderson. The star receiver finished with eight catches for 82 yards and two scores. Tight end Chamon Metayer also stepped up, hauling in five passes for 50 yards.
No none else had more than three receptions and only five players caught passes.
