Cincinnati Bearcats Football Prospect Breakdown: Gavin Grover

Grover could be a lethal weapon at tight end for the Bearcats.
In this story:

TUNNEL HILL — Gavin Grover is a Cincinnati Bearcats three-star 2024 tight end and early enrollee with the Bearcats. He played high school ball for Olentangy High School in Lewis Central, Ohio.

According to 247Sports, Grover is the 31st-ranked tight end nationally and the 21st-ranked player in Ohio.

The tight-end prospect measures in at around 6-foot-6, 240 pounds. Here are some notes about the pass-catching enrollee.

Strengths:

  • Physical: He is very physical as a vertical threat. Grover creates disadvantages at the catch point, especially if it’s a ball that he needs to use his size for.
  • Size: He boasts great measurables at the tight end position already. His size is on its way to NFL caliber, needing about 10-15 pounds over time.
  • Hips: His hips are great at tracking a ball in the open field. This helps him at the catch point as well. He reminds me a bit of an outfielder.
  • Bruiser: Grover is a downfield bruiser when he has the ball in his hands. He fights for every yard.
  • Yards After Catch: He is great at turning small yard plays into big gains, lowering his shoulder to give his team more yards than expected.
  • Blocking: Grover is an excellent blocker. He is a two-way threat with his road-grading and receiving abilities.

Areas To Improve:

  • Route Running: He isn’t a bad route runner by any means but this area has room for development. The freshman is a bit predictable at times.
  • Speed: This should develop over time. He is fast enough to beat out the majority of linebacker matchups, but when a safety drops down he shows some trouble.
