ESPN reporter says Deion Sanders' "Beef Wellington" roster won’t make a difference at Colorado
Mark Schlabach doesn't have much faith in Deion Sanders.
ESPN's senior writer took several swipes at Colorado's unconventional approach with a blistering preview going into the 2023 season. Schlabach gave a few bold predictions on Coach Prime's first year in the Power Five and pulled no punches.
"There has been plenty of hype and controversy surrounding Deion Sanders’ move from FCS program Jackson State to Colorado in the offseason," Schlabach wrote.
"The Buffaloes are going to be one of the most compelling teams in the country, but they’re not going to be very good. Colorado went 1-11 last season, 1-8 in the Pac-12. Sanders and his staff tried to trade out beans and franks ingredients for beef Wellington overnight, but it won’t make much of a difference. It wouldn’t be surprising to see TCU hang half-a-hundred on the Buffaloes in the Sept. 2 opener."
Nice way to pay homage to Deion's fishing buddy Barry Switzer.
Colorado has taken on criticism for Sanders' roster overhaul, with over 70 new players coming into Boulder this season. Nobody mentions the fact that they've made significant upgrades all the way around and could shock the world.
Buffs QB Shedeur Sanders is competing at an elite level, according to CU tight end coach Tim Brewer. The Deacon Jones Award winner from last year brought his top target, Travis Hunter, to Colorado, and the duo are bound to turn heads.
The Buffs face a brutal non-conference schedule with last year’s national runner-up in TCU to open the season on Sept. 2. They'll face Nebraska and Colorado State at home in subsequent weeks before Oregon on the road in week four to start Pac-12 play.
