Update on Jalen Carter's NFL Draft Stock
While the Georgia football program is ramping up Spring practice to begin preparation for the 2023 season, a long list of former Bulldogs is continuing their preparation for the NFL draft. Georgia is set to host their own Pro Day on March 15th for players to provide one last impression before the draft, and former defensive lineman Jalen Carter is one that is hoping for a big showing.
Carter received an invite to the NFL combine but elected not to participate in the workout portion of the event, but will instead do so at UGA's pro day. The former Bulldog is considered one of the top prospects in the draft, but since the conclusion of the combine and the Chicago Bears trading the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers, there is some uncertainty about whether or not he will be a top-five pick like he once was projected.
It was also reported that Carter met with the Seattle Seahawks at UGA's pro day. The Seahawks currently hold the fifth overall pick in the draft.
Carter still is more than capable of hearing his name called within the first 10 picks, and a big showing on March 15 would help solidify that projection. Even after the combine, some mock drafts still had Carter marked down as a top-five pick, while other draft analysts like Todd McShay had him falling outside of the top ten.
The former Georgia defensive lineman has long been labeled as one of the top prospects in this year's draft class, and as one of the top players in college football. He remained one of the flashiest players on Georgia's roster for the entirety of his career, and that speaks volumes considering how many other high-caliber football players played alongside Carter over the past three years.
His draft stock may have taken a little bit of a hit since the conclusion of the 2022 college football season, but when a player's ceiling is as high as Carter's, it's hard to pass him up in the draft, regardless of what a team's needs might be. It will be interesting to see how or if Carter's performance at UGA's pro day will affect his stock, and just how high in the draft he will go when it is all said and done.
Smart referred to Carter as a "Generational talent" on Wednesday at the pro day, and his draft stock resembles just that.
