Report: Danny Hall Will Remain Georgia Tech Head Coach
Georgia Tech head baseball coach Danny Hall is going remain the Yellow Jackets head baseball coach.
There had been some speculation about Hall's future with the way this season had gone and the team's performance in the ACC tournament, but Hall is going to remain with the program, where he has been the head coach since 1994.
Chris Vivlamore of the AJC was the first to report the news earlier today.
While Hall is going to remain, pitching coach Danny Borrell is not going to remain with the program. Georgia Tech has had the worst pitching in the ACC since Borrell had been hired and while it is not the only factor in the team's disappointing performance, it is a huge factor.
Georgia Tech finished the season 30-27 and is going to miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2018 season. Hall has not made it out of a regional since 2006 and that is incredibly disappointing given the amount of talent that Georgia Tech has had over the years.
Borrell had been the pitching coach since 2019 after coming over from the New York Yankees organization and in those seasons, Georgia Tech has finished 10th (2020), 13th (2021), 13th (2022), and 13th (2023) in ERA in the ACC.
Georgia Tech AD J Batt has had to make two big hires (Brent Key and Damon Stoudamire) and for now, he is not going to be making any more big changes in the athletics programs. It is fair to criticize this program's performance given the talent they have and this is a decision that could backfire on Batt if the results don't change.
Here is Batt's statement on the firing of Borrell and the retaining of Hall:
“Everyone associated with our program is disappointed that this season didn’t meet the high standards that we all have for Georgia Tech baseball, as I know our fans are too. “I have full faith in (Head) Coach (Danny) Hall as the leader of our program and I support his decision to make this change on his staff. All of us are appreciative of Coach Borrell’s efforts over the past four seasons and we wish him and his family nothing but the very best.
“Coach Hall is one of the very best coaches in college baseball. I’m looking forward to continuing to support him as he works to get our program back on the path to Omaha (Per Georgia Tech PR).
