Brad Stevens and Joe Mazzulla Comment on Damon Stoudamire Hire at Georgia Tech

Damon Stoudamire has been hired as the new head coach of Georgia Tech

New head coach Damon Stoudamire has yet to even have his introductory press conference as the new head coach of Georgia Tech, but he already has two important endorsements that signal how respected he is among basketball coaches.

Former Boston Celtics head coach and current president of basketball operations Brad Stevens commented on Georgia Tech hiring Stoudamire today and here is what Stevens had to say (Courtesy of Georgia Tech PR):

“Congratulations to Damon and Georgia Tech. We are thankful for everything that Damon has contributed during in his time in Boston. He’s a great teammate – he works hard, he cares about everyone in the room, and he has a special feel for the game. We will all miss having him here, but are thrilled for him and will be rooting for his success with the Yellow Jackets.”

Not only did Stevens praise the hiring of Stoudamire, but so did current Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla (Courtesy of Georgia Tech PR):

“Damon is a great person, successful leader, and will be a great head coach. He has an ability to build genuine relationships, connect with players, and bring an organization together for a common goal. His loyalty, basketball experience, work ethic and personality made the Celtics better. We will miss him as a person and coach. Georgia Tech is lucky to have him.”

Stoudamire will take over the Yellow Jackets Men's Basketball Program and hopes to have this team competing for ACC Championships and NCAA Tournament births. Georgia Tech did win an ACC Tournament under Pastner, but the Yellow Jackets have not won a game in the NCAA Tournament since 2010.

Stoudamire is a former college player as well, playing at the University of Arizona before being drafted by the Toronto Raptors. Stoudamire played in the NBA from 1995-2008.
