Georgia Tech Football Weekly Recruiting Recap: 7/3
It might be the dead period in college football recruiting right now, but Georgia Tech is still adding players to its 2024 class and could be on its way to adding more.
The Yellow Jackets have the 18th-ranked class on Rivals and the 21st on 247Sports.
Let's recap the week that was in Georgia Tech recruiting.
1. Three-star cornerback Trajen Greco commits to Georgia Tech
Greco is the No. 520 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite and the No. 62 player in the state of Georgia. He now becomes the fourth-highest-rated commitment in the Georgia Tech class behind edge rusher CJ Jackson, wide receiver Isiah Canion, and wide receiver Koby Young.
Greco committed to Georgia Tech over offers from Kansas, North Carolina, Tulane, Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Pitt, Virginia, and USF, among others.
He also plays basketball. Named Georgia Region 8-AAAAAAA Player of the Year as an 11th grader after consistently scoring in double figures (Notes and stats courtesy of 247Sports Andrew Ivins)
2022: Worked primarily CB for a Mill Creek program that went and won its first state title in school history. Credited with 61 tackles, 17 PBU, 5 INT and a FR, which was returned for six points. Also threw a TD pass on offense. (Notes and stats courtesy of 247Sports Andrew Ivins).
2. Georgia Tech picks up Crystal Ball Predictions to land four-star cornerback Troy Stevenson
Earlier this week, four-star cornerback Troy Stevenson, who plays at Philip Simmons High School in Charleston, SC, picked up a couple of 247 Crystal Ball predictions to Georgia Tech by two analysts.
Stevenson took an official visit to Georgia Tech earlier this month and it seems as if they have the momentum in this recruitment currently. Stevenson is the No. 131 player in the country on 247Sports, the No. 7 ATH, and the No. 3 player in the state of South Carolina.
Stevenson is slated to make his commitment on July 9th according to his Twitter Account.
Now, this does not mean that Stevenson is going to come to Georgia Tech, but they appear to be trending in the right direction. Stevenson would be a big pickup for Georgia Tech and would make a good class even better.
Other schools that have offered Stevenson include Cincinnati, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech, among others
Here is the scouting report on Stevenson, courtesy of 247Sports analyst Brian Dohn:
"Has size to play cornerback or receiver. May be better suited for defensive side because it is more natural. Multi-sport athlete who flashes explosion with one-handed dunks. Ran respectable 11.09 in 100 meters as sophomore. Impacts football game in all three phases. Possesses good ball skills. Shows ability to flip hip and run with receiver. Drives on ball well. Is comfortable in press coverage and can re-route receivers with jams. Stays low in back pedal and comfortably transitions his weight to open and run or move on play in front of him. Brings a physical aspect to play at cornerback. Is willing to come up and make a big hit. Is able to compete and use technique to defend bigger receivers down the field in one-on-one situations. Has willing to take on blocks and win the edge to force plays inside. Good open field tackler. As a receiver secures ball quickly and gets up field. Shows burst to pierce defense on quick throws. Gets off line of scrimmage cleanly and into route well. Locates ball well and has no fear going over middle. Has to continue to develop getting into and out of breaks with purpose. Has to continue to work on his top end speed. Must get in the weight room and add strength in upper body to handle college-aged receivers. Continued development with footwork, particularly in flipping his hips, is needed. Can be multi-year starter and impact player at Top 20 program. Has late round NFL draft potential."
Here are some stats and other info courtesy of 247Sports analyst Gabe Brooks:
"South Carolina 3A bronze medalist in the high jump (6-2) as a junior in May 2023. Won Lower State championship with a 6-6 high jump and Region 8 title with a 6-4 the same month. Placed seventh in the South Carolina 3A long jump finals (21-2) after posting a 23-1.5 at Lower State competition. Won the Region 8 title with a 21-7.75.South Carolina 2A state qualifier in the 100 meters as a sophomore, finishing seventh with an 11.09 in May 2022. Placed eighth at state in the high jump (5-8) and fifth in the long jump (21-0). Posted sophomore season-bests of 6-0 in the high jump and 21-10.5 in the long jump."
2022: Stevenson caught 19 passes for 443 yards and 6 TDs on 23.3 yards per grab in 11 games as a junior. Added 22 tackles, 2 INTs (1 TD), and 1 forced fumble on defense. Also logged return-game reps.
2021: As a sophomore, caught 13 passes for 216 yards and 4 TDs on 16.6 yards per reception in 13 games. Also ran 4 times for 57 yards and recorded 20 tackles and 4 INTs (1 TD) on defense. Averaged 29.3 yards across 8 kickoff return chances.
Keep an eye out here to see if anything changes, but Georgia Tech is right in the thick of it for a talented four-star cornerback.
3. Georgia Tech flips four-star wide receiver Isiah Canion from Notre Dame
Canion is a 6'3 190 LBS wide receiver prospect that plays at Warner Robins High School in Georgia. His other offers included Auburn, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida State, Indiana, and Stanford, among others.
This is a big flip for Georgia Tech. This staff now has a solid foundation for the future at the wide receiver position.
He is a two-sport athlete who also plays baseball.
Canion now becomes the second-highest-ranked member of the Yellow Jackets 2024 class, behind four-star edge rusher CJ Jackson.
Here are some stats and info on Canion courtesy of 247Sports Gabe Brooks:
2022: Played QB and receiver as a junior. Threw for 584 yards, five TDs, and one INT on 42-for-61 passing (68.9 percent). Added 15-32-1 rushing and 26-395-6 receiving. Produced six tackles and two INTs in limited defensive snaps. Helped Warner Robins to a 10-5 record and a Georgia 5A state runner-up finish.
2021: Finished sophomore season with 28-190-1 rushing and 5-51 receiving. Threw for 192 yards, three TDs, and one INT on 15-for-20 passing (75.0 percent).
