247Sports Names Eric Singleton Jr to its Midseason True Freshman All-American Team

Singleton is Georgia Tech's leading receiver this season

Last week, On3 Sports released its Midseason True Freshman All-American team and two Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets made the list. Wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr and offensive tackle Ethan Mackenny made the team for how they have performed in the first six games of the season. Yesterday, 247Sports and analyst Chris Hummer released its own Midseason True Freshman All-American team and while Mackenny did not make the team, Singleton did. 

All three picks for the top true freshmen wide receivers were from the ACC. Along with Singleton, NC State's Kevin Concepcion, and Clemson's Tyler Brown were among the selections. 

Here is what Hummer had to say about the season that Singleton is having in 2023: 

"The true freshman leader in touchdown catches, Singleton has excelled in his first year with the Yellow Jackets. He’s caught a team-high 20 passes for 355 yards on 17.8 yards per catch. Georgia Tech didn’t have an established No. 1 wide receiver after Nate McCollum (North Carolina) departed the program this offseason via the transfer portal, Singleton has ably filled the role."

Could Eric Singleton be the next great GT receiver?

Georgia Tech has seen a big jump in production in the passing game this season after having one of the worst in the country in 2022 and Singleton is a big reason why. His ability to stretch the field in the vertical passing game and his ability to separate from defenders has been beyond what a true freshman usually does. 

Georgia Tech is 3-3 after their big win over Miami and both Mackenny and Singelton have played a huge role in helping get this team to try and make a bowl game for the first time since 2018. They have bright futures as Yellow Jackets and are only going to get better.
