Bowl Projections 2023: Where is Georgia Tech projected to play?
Georgia Tech has not made a bowl game since the 2018 season, Paul Johnson's last in Atlanta. There is still a ways to go for the Yellow Jackets to get there, but they are starting to pick up projections from around the country to land in one.
ESPN's Mark Schlabach has Georgia Tech playing in the Fenway Park Bowl against future ACC member SMU on December 28th at 11:00 a.m. Georgia Tech holds an 8-2 all-time series lead against SMU, but the teams have not played since 1969. Georgia Tech won the last game 24-21. The two programs met every year from 1950-1959. SMU's only wins against Georgia Tech came in 1950 and 1958.
Two different sites have Georgia Tech landing in the same bowl game. 247Sports and The Action Network have the Yellow Jackets heading to Annapolis, MD to play in the Military Bowl against the Memphis Tigers, who are 3-1 this season and just played Missouri.
Georgia Tech has played Memphis three times and winning twice. The two programs played from 1980-1982, with the Yellow Jackets winning in 1980 and 1982.
Brent Key led his team to victory in week four against Wake Forest, leading to praise from around the country. Georgia Tech is a big favorite against Bowling Green this weekend and that would have them at 3-2 heading into October.
Obviously, we are only four weeks into the season and these bowl projections are largely meaningless, but it does say something in my opinion that Georgia Tech is projected to go to one after not being there in the preseason. A good step forward for this program would be getting to a bowl game this season.
Georgia Tech vs Bowling Green kicks off at 3:30 p.m. this Saturday in Atlanta.
