CBS Sports Analyst predicts Georgia Tech's win total for the 2023 season
The 2023 college football season is inching closer and that means more predictions are going to be rolling in on college football win totals.
The latest comes from CBS Sports and college football analyst Chip Patterson (who is one of the best in the business) and he was picking every projected ACC win total today, including the 4.5 that has been set for Georgia Tech by multiple sports books.
Patterson elected to take the under on the 4.5 projection and here is what he had to say about his decision to do so:
"The job Brent Key did rallying the Yellow Jackets after Geoff Collins' midseason dismissal not only landed him the full-time head coaching position but offered some encouragement for his ability to lead the program into the future. After major roster turnover, however, Key faces a daunting schedule. Of the losses I've projected here I could see Virginia result going the other way, but that's a tricky spot sandwiched between North Carolina and Clemson. The really bad news for Georgia Tech is flipping that to a win still lands Georgia Tech under Las Vegas' total. Pick: Under 4.5 (-135)"
Patterson projects Georgia Tech to defeat South Carolina State, Bowling Green, and Boston College. The losses he projects are to Louisville, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Miami, North Carolina, Syracuse, Clemson, Virginia, and the rivalry game against Georgia.
I think there is a path to success for Key in his first season. Games against South Carolina State, Bowling Green, Boston College, Virginia, and Syracuse are all winnable and four of them are at home. Other games against Louisville, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Miami are games where the Yellow Jackets will be underdogs, but they have knocked off North Carolina two years in a row and are only eight-point underdogs to Louisville. Wake is undergoing some personnel changes on offense and Louisville is also a transfer-heavy team under a first-year head coach.
There are plenty of questions about GT though and while I think those games are winnable, the margins will be thin and Tech will have to execute well in each game and be well coached and I think there is evidence over the final eight games of the season to suggest that they will.
The Yellow Jackets have to prove it on the field, but there is a path to getting to six wins and a bowl game and maybe more. Let's see what happens.
