Early Look At National Championship Futures Odds For ACC Teams
College Football season is still less than five months away, but futures odds have been out since the end of the national championship game at most major sportsbooks.
At the top, it is the usual suspects like Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State and you have to go down the list a bit before you find any ACC teams, including Georgia Tech.
According to Caesars Sportsbook, the top national titles odds for an ACC team fall to Florida State and Clemson at +1800. The Seminoles are coming off their best season in some time and Mike Norvell's team is going to be a popular pick to go to the college football playoff.
Standing in their way though will be the ACC's premier program for the last decade. Clemson has dropped off its level of play in the last two seasons, but young quarterback Cade Klubnik and new offensive coordinator Garrett Riley could put the Tigers back on the top. After those two teams, it does not appear that Vegas thinks highly of the ACC.
North Carolina is next after FSU and Clemson with +10000 odds and that is a massive dropoff. Even with North Carolina bringing back Heisman trophy candidate Drake Maye, there is not a big belief in the rest of the team.
There are a pair of teams at +20000 and they are Miami and Pitt. The Panthers are having to replace a lot of talent, but Pat Narduzzi has built that program well and they have a way of bouncing back not matter who they lose. Miami is going to be interesting to watch this season after a disastrous debut for Mario Cristobal at his alma mater. The Hurricanes were 5-7 last year and it seems that Vegas is being cautious about them this season.
At +30000 you have NC State, Louisville, Wake Forest, Duke, and Virginia Tech. I know it's +30000 and none of these teams can actually win the title, but I am surprised that Va Tech is grouped with these teams. NC State, Duke, Louisville, and Wake were all bowl teams last season and the Hokies were one of the worst teams in the conference. It feels like putting them among that group is a bit too optimistic.
The bottom of the ACC's national title futures odds is Georgia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse, and Virginia and they are all at +50000. The Yellow Jackets play all three of these teams and I think that is going help boost their prospects of returning to a bowl game.
Expect some of these futures to change as we get closer to the season.
