Georgia Tech remains in ESPN's Bowl Projections following week two
It is still early in the season, but following their week two win over South Carolina State, Georgia Tech remains in ESPN's bowl projections.
The Yellow Jackets were facing an overmatched opponent in perhaps their easiest game of the season, but the Yellow Jackets took care of business and put up nearly 600 yards in the process. The tackling and pass rush still seem to be issues on defense, but they only allowed 13 points and forced a couple of turnovers.
Last week, ESPN's Mark Schlabach had Georgia Tech playing in the Fenway Park Bowl against future ACC member SMU on December 28th at 11:00 a.m. That part of the projection still has not changed this week, as Schlabach has the Yellow Jackets and the Mustangs facing off in Boston right before the calendar turns to 2024.
SMU had a tough game yesterday against Oklahoma and they fell short in that game 28-11. They are projected to be one of the top group of five teams in the country and have one of the best offenses.
Obviously, we are only two weeks into the season and these bowl projections are largely meaningless, but it does say something in my opinion that Georgia Tech is projected to go to one after not being there in the preseason. A good step forward for this program would be getting to a bowl game this season.
Georgia Tech holds an 8-2 all-time series lead against SMU, but the teams have not played since 1969. Georgia Tech won the last game 24-21. The two programs met every year from 1950-1959. SMU's only wins against Georgia Tech came in 1950 and 1958.
Georgia Tech travels to Ole Miss this weekend for one of their toughest games of the season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 and the game will be televised on SEC Network. The Yellow Jackets are currently 17-point underdogs in the game.
