Georgia Tech vs. Louisville Betting Odds: Cardinals remain a touchdown favorite
It is less than a week until Georgia Tech and Louisville meet at Mercedes Benz Stadium for the season opener. There are a lot of interesting angles to this game, including both head coaches starting their first full season at their alma maters. When you look at the predictions, most have Louisville winning the game and some have them winning it decisively. The Cardinals are considered a dark horse contender to make the ACC Championship Game, but they will have to get through a feisty Georgia Tech team first.
So what do the betting odds look like for this game?
Betting Odds
Betting odds per Si Sportsbook: Louisville -7.5; Over/under 49.5; Moneyline: Louisville -300, Georgia Tech +220
Being an underdog is nothing new to Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key and his team. They were picked 12th in the ACC this year and this is what Key had to say about that:
"I could care less, they could less, I could care less. Games are played on the field and I know it is that time of year when it is exciting to see the rankings and see those things and have a lot of good talking points for the next three or four weeks and that is what makes college football a passion and that is what it is, its the passion for the people that cover it, it is a passion for you guys, it's what yall do and helps you put information together but it means nothing to me. If I was not coaching I would be right there with you guys, reading them all and making the predictions, but not for us. Those external things have zero factor on how we come out and practice everyday."
I think this is going to be a closer game than most think and either team could come out on top. The Cardinals have more proven playmakers on offense, but questions around the defense make me think Georgia Tech can score enough to stay in it. This is going to be a good matchup and the Yellow Jackets are going to have to play an all-around sound game to win.
Key spoke about Brohm and Louisville earlier this week and he has a lot of respect for the Cardinals head coach:
"Jeff has coached a lot of football and called a lot of plays in his career so it is no secret as to what he is going to do and what kind of offense they are going to run, whether it was the last couple of years at Purdue or going back to Western Kentucky. He has come up in a system and it is a system that he believes in and it is a system that works and it is a system that has answers and he does a tremendous job calling plays.
Now, like any good football coach, he is also going to tailor that to the personnel that he has so you are not going to try and put a square peg in a round hole if it does not fit so there is the part of bringing your scheme in but also being diverse enough in your scheme and multiple enough within your scheme and that is, they brought I think 26 transfers in so you might look at Louisville film for personnel but there is also 18, 19, 20 different schools that these guys have been at so you are also making cut ups from different schools to make sure you are looking at player tendencies and individual strengths and weaknesses of different players as well as the schematic part as well."
If I were picking the spread and the total, I would say Georgia Tech covers the +7.5 and to take the over.
