Kyle Efford Talks Competition To Be One Of The New Starting Linebackers For Georgia Tech

Efford is one of several Yellow Jacket linebackers vying for a starting spot

One of the positions under the microscope for Georgia Tech this spring is the linebacker spot. Charlie Thomas and Ace Eley are off to the NFL and replacing a pair of 100 tackle guys is never easy. Tech brought in three transfers at the positions, Braelen Oliver from Minnesota and Andre White Jr from Texas A&M, and Austin Dean from Rutgers. Those guys are going to be competing with the players that were already on the roster and all of the linebackers have a new position coach with Kevin Sherrer being hired this offseason.

One guy that might be flying under the radar is redshirt freshman Kyle Efford. Efford did not see the field much last season, but is talented and should push for playing time.

Efford talked on Friday about the competition to be one of the starting linebackers and what the coaches are looking for out of these guys this spring:

"Toughness. Obviously knowing your assignment and that kind of stuff. We are a close-knit group and we are all competing and we all know it is going to be a competition at the spot so we are going after it each and every day."

Efford also discussed what the three transfers have brought to the defense this spring:

"All of the dudes come to work and come to eat every single day. Braelen is playing the money position and he is a good fit for us. Dre has a high motor and Austin is a really good player as well."

One of the attributes that both Thomas and Eley had last season was leadership. Efford said that right now, the leadership is coming from the group as a whole right now:

"I feel as if we all are stepping up right now. We are all still kinda feeling each other out but I feel like on the field, we are all still kinda just getting into it really. I can say that Dre, Braelen, Tyson (Meiguez)... I can't really specify who is taking that leadership role right now. We are all just kind of talking to each other and
