Seven Yellow Jackets Set To Participate In Georgia Tech Pro Day
Tomorrow is a big day for seven former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Keion White, Charlie Thomas, Ace Eley, Malachi Carter, E.J. Jenkins, and William Lay III all finishes their careers playing for Georgia Tech and are getting closer to realizing their NFL dreams. White and Thomas got a chance to participate in the NFL Combine a few weeks ago and put up a good showing. They and the other five players will get to do drills and work out in front of scouts and coaches with the hope of impressing and being an NFL Draft selection.
Georgia Tech has not had a first-round pick since both Demaryius Thomas and Derrick Morgan were selected in 2010, but White has a chance to break that streak.
White is one of the most athletic pass rushers in the country and during the preseason, he was listed in Bruce Feldman's Freaks List. Here is what Feldman wrote:
"White was a devastating player for Old Dominion in 2019, making 19 TFLs. He was 265 then. He transferred to Tech, but then suffered an ankle injury that sidelined him. He’s now 6-4, 290 and primed to be a problem for ACC teams. White has hit 21 mph despite being almost 300 pounds. He also has vertical-jumped 32 inches and done 38 reps of 225 on the bench press."
White finished the 2022 season with 7.5 sacks and 54 tackles and was one of the most impactful players on the Georgia Tech defense.
He did not run a 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and if he chooses to do that tomorrow, he could further make his case to be a first-round pick.
Thomas had a productive season and he put up a solid showing at the NFL Combine.
Thomas showed his speed during the 40-yard dash and ran an official time of 4.52, which was the seventh fastest among linebackers that tested.
It was not just the 40 time that was impressive for Thomas. He tested well in the other drills too.
Thomas had a fantastic season that resulted in him earning second-team All-ACC from the AP. He finished the 2022 season with over 100 tackles, had two sacks, two pass deflections, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He was a constant playmaker for the Yellow Jackets and he is not going to be easy to replace next season.
Last season, Carter finished with 23 catches for 342 yards and two touchdowns, while averaging 14.9 yards per catch. He got a chance to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and Carter finished the day with three catches for 34 yards. His three catches were the most on the National Team that day.
Eley also played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and had a scoop and score in that game. Eley had a season for the ages by totaling 118 tackles, 3.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and three pass deflections. Eley put together a great final season for the program. I think with a solid showing tomorrow, Eley could move up to be a day-three selection.
Jenkins came to Georgia Tech as a transfer after spending some time at Saint Francis (PA) and at South Carolina. He brought experience and leadership to the wide receiver room and was consistent for the Yellow Jackets this season. He was a big target at 6'7 243 LBS and it will be interesting to see how NFL teams evaluate Jenkins and if a move to tight end is a possibility or if he stays outside at receiver.
During the 2022 season, Jenkins caught 17 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 18.6 yards per catch, which is quite impressive for someone of his size.
Hall was the leading rusher for Georgia Tech last season with 116 carries for 521 yards and one touchdown. He also had 28 catches for 165 yards.
Lay III is a former walk-on who spent most of last season as the backup center but has playing experience from his time at Georgia Tech.
