Updated ACC Football Standings: Week Four
Conference play is heating up in the ACC and the game of the year in the ACC is this week.
Florida State is traveling to Clemson this weekend and this game has been discussed all offseason as a possible ACC Championship game preview and the winner being in the driver's seat for a college football playoff birth. While Clemson does have a loss to Duke, upsetting the fourth-ranked Seminoles would turn the season around for the Tigers and help them reemerge in the playoff picture. Florida State would remain the ACC's top playoff hope with a win.
Only three ACC teams have a conference win so far this year and Florida State is one of them. FSU had to scratch and claw their way to a win against Boston College, but they may have been looking ahead to this weekend.
Duke beat Clemson in week one and has been cruising in non-conference play since. They don't have another ACC game until October.
Louisville defeated Georgia Tech in week one and have beaten Murray State and Indiana since. The Cardinals resume ACC play this week against Boston College, who is 1-2.
Miami has their last non-conference game of the year this week against Temple and then the Hurricanes have a bye week before their ACC opener against Georgia Tech.
North Carolina opens ACC play this week against Pitt, who has looked as bad as they possibly could through three weeks. The offense is a disaster right now and it seems longer than two years ago that the Panthers were winning the ACC with their offense and Heisman candidate at quarterback. It is looking less like that the Panthers make a bowl game.
Syracuse has their final non-conference game of the weekend against Army before beginning ACC play against Clemson.
Wake Forest is 3-0 and starts ACC play this weekend against Georgia Tech. The Demon Deacons were down to Old Dominion last week, but was able to mount a comeback.
NC State begins conference play this week against Virginia, who has looked like the worst team in the conference through three weeks. The Wolfpack have had their struggles, but it is hard to see them losing this weekend.
Virginia Tech is currently a 7.5-point underdog against Marshall this weekend. It has been a terrible start for Brent Pry and Virginia Tech in his second season.
Clemson, Boston College, and Georgia Tech are all 0-1 in the conference, but they have a chance to notch their first conference wins this week.
