Cleveland Browns C Luke Wypler Signs Rookie Contract
Former Ohio State Buckeyes center Luke Wypler officially put pen to paper, the Cleveland Browns announced Friday.
The details of Wypler's rookie contract are unknown. The Montvale, N.J. native was the Browns' sixth-round, No. 156 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and will compete for a roster spot behind last year's starting center Ethan Pocic — who signed a three-year, $18 million extension in March — and Cleveland 2020 fifth-round pick Nick Harris.
Wypler, who will wear No. 56 with the Browns, tied for the third-best Pro Football Focus offensive grade among all Football Bowl Subdivision centers last season at 82.5. His 84.1 pass block grade was 10th in the country while his 81.0 run block grade was sixth.
In 827 snaps last season, he allowed one sack and seven hurries, according to PFF.
ESPN's Todd McShay believed Wypler, who was named to the All-Combine Team, was "a starter that they got in the sixth round."
"He was in the top-three results of all centers in the vertical jump and broad jump and that short shuttle, which is the most indicative of NFL success with interior offensive linemen," McShay said on the ESPN draft broadcast.
Cleveland fourth-round selection and former Buckeye offensive tackle Dawand Jones has yet to sign his rookie contract with the Browns.
