Ole Miss Rebels' Jeremy James 'Really Comfortable' With Offensive Line Depth
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels have been dealing with some small injuries along their offensive line throughout fall camp. Still, one of the seniors of the unit is not worried about it affecting the team entering Week 1 versus the Mercer Bears.
Ole Miss offensive lineman Jeremy James was recently made available to speak with the media and expressed how comfortable he is with the depth and versatility of his position group.
"Really comfortable," James told reporters. "We have eight or nine guys that can play multiple positions. We're all close as a group and we feel really good about it."
Ole Miss coaches have been shifting players to different positions along the offensive line during practices and James gave his reasoning for the experimentation.
"We're just trying to get everyone comfortable wherever," James said. "We're going to need people to play everywhere this year. Unfortunately, injuries do happen, so we're just trying to get people used to playing in different rotations and spots."
James is wrapping up his fourth and final fall camp with Ole Miss and explained that he is experiencing a lot of "last ride moments" as a Rebel.
"At this point, everything we do [has that feeling]," James said. "After my last fall camp practice I was like wow that's the last one, I'll never do that again."
James mentioned that there were times last year when he was not sure if he would be returning to Oxford for his senior year
"There discussions about [not returning]," James said. "But ultimately, we decided that it was best that I come back for one more year."
Entering the 2023 season, James received Preseason All-SEC First Team honors from Lindy's after starting all 13 games last year for the Rebels, with nine at right guard and four at right tackle. The Cumming, Ga., native recorded 914 snaps along the offensive line in 2022.
