PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have one more open scholarship to use ahead of the 2023-24 season and it's become very clear who they'd like to fill that spot.

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel and his staff have set up a Zoom call with Rutgers transfer Paul Mulcahy, according to a report from Jaden Daly, an independent reporter covering college basketball recruiting iin the New York and New Jersey area.

Mulcahy's baseline stats are good enough to make him a good fit - 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists to just 1.8 turnovers per game. He's also played in 121 career games, 81 of which were starts, and has played in three NCAA Tournament games over two years. What's more, Mulcahy's a 35.7% 3-point shooter for his career, which doesn't hurt.

The advanced stats also paint a picture of a player that even further fits what the Panthers need. Mulcahy's posted an assist rate north of 28% for each of the past two seasons - an elite mark among Division I players. Not only is he a plus defender (career-high 3.2 defensive box plus-minus and 2.9% steal rate last season) he is remarkably efficient offensively (103.1 offensive rating on just 17.7 usage rate).
