PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers' 2024 recruiting class became one player lighter this week as one of their most recent commitments opted to abandon his pledge to Pat Narduzzi program.

Chasen Johnson, a three-star defensive back from Seminole, Florida, who committed to Pitt following an official visit earlier this month, announced that he would be decommitting from the Panthers and reopening his recruitment.

Johnson, who made the switch from receiver to cornerback last season, picked Pitt over offense from South Carolina, West Virginia, UCF, Florida State, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Illinois, Indiana, Oregon State, Missouri and others. He had taken visits to see the Gamecocks and Knights, as well as Florida and Miami, earlier this year.

Rated by 247Sports and On3 as a three-star prospect, he's ranked as high as the No. 111 player in the state of Florida and the No. 65 cornerback in his class (247Sports).

The Panthers still have a class crowded with defensive backs. They have four - Nigel Maynard, Davion Pritchard, Allen Bryant and Tayshawn Banks - still pledged to join the program next year.
