PITTSBURGH -- One of the players to transfer from the Pitt Panthers this offseason has quickly found a new home.

Former Pitt defensive tackle Deandre Jules is out of the transfer portal and headed to the SEC to play for Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks, he announced on Twitter.

Jules burst onto the scene in training camp after a quiet first thee years at Pitt. He set career-highs in games played (13), tackles (24), tackles for loss (7.5), sacks (2) and forced fumbles (1) in 2023.

The Panthers figure to get significantly younger this offseason at defensive tackle with David Green, plus sixth-year seniors Tyler Bentley and Devin Danielson set to end their college careers. Jules was supposed to be a major contributor as one of the few returning veterans but his departure means all four defensive tackles who started at least one game last season will depart the program.

Underclassmen Sean FitzSimmons and Eliott Donald figure to see big upticks in playing time and true freshman Isaiah Neal could play his way into more snaps after showing some promising things this year. But if the Panthers don't add an older transfer this offseason, they'll be uncharacteristically young upfront in 2024.
