Former Pitt S Duo Cut by Jaguars, Texans

Former Pitt Panthers safeties Erick Hallett and Brandon Hill were both cut by their respective teams.

PITTSBURGH -- The NFL's roster cut deadline brought bad news for a pair of former Pitt Panthers safeties that had been a long-time starting duo.

Erick Hallett and Brandon Hill, who started together in the Pitt secondary for more than two years, were cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans, it was announced following the 4:00 p.m. deadline on Tuesday.

Hallett had been impressing coaches during training camp with his versatility (he had been swinging between corner and safety this summer) and ball skills (he came up with his first career interception during the final preseason game). But it was not enough for the former sixth-round pick to land on the 53-man roster.

Hill had a quiet training camp. He suffered a hamstring injury midway through August and did not appear in a preseason game. The surprising early entry to the draft coming out of Pitt was a seventh-round selection but will have to find a new home now.
