PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers and newly-minted offensive coordinator Kade Bell have extended a new scholarship offer to a transfer wide receiver this week.

LaJohntay Wester, a senior standout from Florida Atlantic University, was in the transfer portal for 13 minutes before picking up an offer from Bell and Pitt. They will, in all likelihood, not be the last Power 5 school to extend a scholarship offer.

Wester was named an honorable mention All-Conference USA selection as both a receiver and punt returner in 2022 and got miles better in 2023, earning first-team all-conference honors as a returner and wide receiver and CUSA Special Teams Player of the Year honors.

He hauled in 1,421 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns during the 2021 and 2022 seasons before breaking through for a 108-reception, 1,168-yard, eight-touchdown season in 2023. He averaged 19.9 yards on 14 punt returns this past season and scored a touchdown.

He's not particularly big - just 5'11 and 167 pounds, but that frame fits the profile of receivers successful in Bell's offenses at Western Carolina.
