Pitt RB Rodney Hammond Sets New Career High

Pitt Panthers running back Rodney Hammond ran for a career-high in yards against Boston College.

PITTSBURGH -- Boston College had put some real pressure on the Pitt Panthers late in the fourth quarter, kicking a field goal from deep inside enemy territory to make it a 17-16 game with just over five minutes to play.

But Rodney Hammond answered their score quickly and emphatically, rushing 66 yards for a touchdown on just the second play of the drive. That run was not only the longest for Pitt this season and the longest of Hammond's career, but it also put him up to 129 yards rushing - a new career high - on just 13 carries.

That 66-yard rush was the longest by a Panthers since Israel Abanikanda went 80 yards for a touchdown last season against Virginia Tech.

Hammond ended his night with 145 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. It's his first 100-yard rushing game since last year against Syracuse, in which he had previously set a career-high in rushing yards.

It's been tough sledding for Hammond this season, who has split carries with Daniel Carter and C'Bo Flemister despite sitting atop the depth chart for the entire season. But in the final home game of the season, Hammond played his best game. The offense fed him and he delivered.
