PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have earned seven verbal commitments from players in the class of 2024 before their junior years of high school has ended. Their work locking up recruits early in the cycle has paid off, as their class has cracked the top 20 in multiple national recruiting class rankings.

After three-star offensive lineman Jiavani Cooley announced that he had chosen Pitt, the 2024 class of future Panthers rose to a tie with Minnesota for No. 16 in Rivals' national team rankings, up two spots from where they were a week ago, and held inside the top 20 of 247Sports' rankings despite dropping two places to No. 20. The Panthers are also among the top fifth of FBS programs in On3's national team class rankings, checking in at No. 25. That's a three-spot improvement

Four ACC teams have classes ranked ahead of the Panthers in 247's database and just three are ahead of them in Rivals' rankings. Three classes from inside the conference are considered better than Pitt's by On3.

Four-star defensive lineman Jashear Whittington and receiver Ric'Darious Farmer headline the now seven-man strong class of high school recruits. They have four players from Pennsylvania committed to the class, including the No. 29, 23 and 15 ranked recruits from the state.

There's a long way to go in the recruiting calendar, but Pitt has gotten off to a hot start with the class of 2024.
