South Carolina's Football program has displayed its ability to develop and send its players to the NFL, as they had five draft picks between Thursday and Saturday and saw three more players get signed as undrafted free agents in the 15 hours succeeding the draft. As of Sunday afternoon, the number of undrafted free agent signings has now increased to four, as linebacker Sherrod Greene has signed a UDFA deal with the New York Jets.

Like some of the other Gamecocks heading onto the NFL, Greene's career was marred by adversity, particularly in terms of injuries. In the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Sherrod only played in 4 games after suffering hip and ankle injuries that knocked him out for the rest of both seasons.

At the beginning of the 2022 season, it appeared that the injuries had derailed Greene's chances of potentially getting shot to play in the NFL, as Mohamed Kaba and Brad Johnson were the starting linebackers to begin the season. In week two against Arkansas, Kaba suffered a torn ACL that would sideline him for the rest of the Fall, which, while extremely saddening, opened the door for Sherrod to finish off his college career his way.

Greene would register a career-high in total tackles for a season while adding on 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and an interception. His SEC experience in a modern-day defense and sheer personal tenacity could quickly make him a fan favorite in the Big Apple.
